Kanj et al. [79] designed a framework for the protection of the healthcare data in WSNs. Their framework consists of five phases: data collection, preprocessing, feature extraction, prediction, and security. The first phase collects and stores the patient's personal information. The data is transferred to the cloud through a secure connection. The patient's personal data is stored as a feature vector in the second phase. Then, the feature vector is transferred to a machine learning engine. The machine learning engine analyzes the patient's data and predicts the future health status. The data is sent to the patient's mobile device through an encrypted connection in the third phase. In the fourth phase, the patient's mobile device transmits the data to the cloud through a secure connection. Finally, the cloud sends the data to the next process.
Santos et al. [84] designed a system for the health monitoring of the elderly. The proposed system includes two phases. The first phase is the data collection and preprocessing. The platform collects the patient's data from the ANS, PPG, and heart rate monitor sensors. In the second phase, the signal is analyzed by using the Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT). Then, the WPT vector is stored in the database for further analysis. The collected data is compared with the patient's data, and the results are sent to the user through an ANS or a smartphone.
The communication process between the IoT devices and the cloud is a critical component in the BDM process. This process is affected by the location and security of IoT devices. Data transmission between the IoT devices and the cloud is affected by the following factors: (i) different communication protocols and technologies; (ii) IoT devices not knowing which communication technologies are available; and (iii) IoT devices not knowing which cloud nodes to communicate with [13]. IoT devices must learn or obtain access to a communication protocol and cloud nodes and must be able to configure themselves in order to communicate with the cloud [23].
Smart Homes are useful intelligent devices that enable users to view the amount of water in a tank, control a sprinkler, and watch a sunrise. The smart home is a building or part of a building that uses electronics, sensors, and networking devices to facilitate convenient and efficient home automation. The process of data collection in a smart home starts with the user who uses IoT devices to monitor water in the tank, wearables, and mobile phones to provide data, which is transmitted to other devices through wired and wireless networks. Based on the data collected, users decide to change their security settings and access control methods or water. However, the data in the IoT that needs to be collected and processed are often huge. The data format and IoT technologies evolve continuously. New data can be generated at any time. 827ec27edc
