Intel Nas Ss4000 Software 15

Well, I did not change the disk, and I could not tell if there was a failure, and I could not get past that screen. I did verify that the disk sizes and serial numbers recognized by the Intel ss4000-e firmware were EXACTLY the same. And, the disks on that page stated no errors
Storage system software versions 1.0 through 1.4 are a \"mildly\" proprietary build based on standard Linux Kernel version 2.6. There's no \"kill RAID\" commands built in for system name or IP address changes.
One of the two included CDs contains the client software for logging onto and configuring the NAS, as well as the backup function that the NAS provides to help secure files and data from the network. The second CD is bootable and contains a special disaster recovery program. If files go missing on a client computer or the machine is damaged, this CD can restore a drive image quickly and completely (even on a new or reformatted drive).
To that end, I have decided to take a more traditional approach and install a Linux-based file server. As cost is an issue, I have been pricing out some bare-bones solutions upon which I can build. Also, I have decided to build a Linux From Scratch OS onto the box, instead of installing a heavy distro. I like Mandriva and Ubuntu, but I really do not want to have all that extra software and package management to deal with. I was able to work out a list of applications/libraries that I will need, cutting out all of the fat and trimming the system down as much as possible. Once I have gotten everything successfully installed I will post my results and any performance issues/benefits that I encounter. If all goes well, I should have a solution for anyone else out there who bought one of these storage boxes and is looking for a higher-performance solution.
hi philip,we have ss4000-3 with firmware version 13b524,I couldn't update the firmware, I unplug all the HDDs and then reboot the NAS,after it boots, system status LED turns to continuous yellow and I cannot reach the web console,in order to to update, what can I dothanks
Summary: Data loss can happen anytime on any storage device and dynamic disk is no exception. This guide explains how to recover data from dynamic RAID disk using Stellar Data Recovery software. Download it now!
You can recover the data lost from dynamic disk in RAID array by using a powerful and efficient RAID recovery software, such as Stellar Data Recovery Technician. This software can retrieve lost or deleted documents, photos, audio files, videos, PDFs, emails, and more from RAID drives. Furthermore, it can efficiently recover lost or formatted RAID logical volumes. It can detect critical RAID parameters and reconstruct virtual RAID to retrieve data from corrupt, broken, or failed RAID 0, RAID 5, and RAID 6 arrays. Follow the below-mentioned steps to recover data from dynamic disk in RAID array:
Anyone interested to hack this unit with a (better) opensource alternative (debian or whatever), please contact me or write a comment. I'd love to have this working like a real storage array it claims to be.Got this piece of hardware with high expectations and start reading on the internet about it. Most of its users shows it rather a crap. I tend to feel the same.Details about SS4000-E unit- CPU Intel Xscale IOP 80219 at 400 MHz- chipset Fintek f75111 (according to Arnaud)- the OS volume is a 256 DOM (Disk On Memory) module installed in the motherboard IDE port, mounted as /dev/hda1 as ext2 partition- the data for storage is on a lvm2 volume in md raid, mounted as /dev/evms/md0vol1 and formatted ext3 >> 4 bays for SATA-1 HDD, greater than 500 GB with the total storage capacity greater than 2 TB (according to Intel)- the OS is a proprietary Linux wolf 2.6.10-iop1-9 by FalconStor (check # uname -r via SSH)- the operating system used by the user determines which option should be choose while setting it up:Windows/Mac OS X user (CIFS)Linux/Other Mac user (NFS)- Newisys NA-1400 is a similary device, but not identical; however, its documentation might be helpfulShort storyI expect SS4000 to be a storage backup for my data. I'm not interested on any advanced feature like RAID or so. I'm not interested in speed, though the device has 2 built-in GB lan adapters and 4 SATA slots for hard drives. Generally, I want a device attached to my home network, low on electricity bill, capacity of minimum 2 TB (4 x 500 GB) and just work without hassle.SetupThis unit runs proprietary software made by FalconStor. The unit I have was upgraded to the maximum RAM supported (512 MB DDR-266, but only 256 MB recognized) and latest firmware (version 1.4). I want as more available capacity as possible. At some point, I added 4 drives of 1TB (WD10EACS) but not satisfied >> read Test Lab bellow.Tasks I want to accomplish- Linear configuration, as explained by Javed Lodhi. This is what I intended in the first place upon acquisition, but I didn't know how to do it. I'll test that in the future.- Automatic scheduling, as nkamp asked on Intel Comunity (no answer as of this writing)- SSH access - explained on Paul Cobbaut's blogCLI commands that can be used for different purposes# dmesg =# cat /var/log/kern.log = kernel logs# uname -m = architecture (smth. like armv5tel)# uname -r = kernel (smth. like 2.6.10-iop1)# ls /proc =# cat /proc/cpuinfo =# cat /proc/devices =# cat /proc/filesystems =# cat /proc/interrupts =# cat /proc/ mdstat =# cat /proc/meminfo =# cat /proc/pci =Test Lab2010-08-01: Four 1TB drives attached as RAID-5. After 1 day, the 4th drive started rebuilding RAID. It takes about 3 days (and nights) !! I feel like I give up on RAID-5...The web interface is very limited during rebuilding. The only page available is _disks_changedF.cgi (it asks first for credential first). No other page I can access, including default (Chrome browser gives this error: \"This webpage has a redirect loop. The webpage at has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.). Clearing cookies won't change anything.2010-08-20: Linear configuration doesn't work quite I was expecting. I would need to see each disk independent as one share each drive/disk, but linear configuration on SS4000-E gives me a wizard which force me to choose a homes share (min. 200 MB, but not more than 2 TB; in this particular case 2TB) and a public share (min. 200 MB, but no more than 2 TB; in this particular case 745GB). Homes share is the place where each added user would have it's own share name, while public share should be available to any user without credential (not working this way here). I created a user backup for all my needs, and I use public share when homes share would not be enough (security is not a concern, I have a private area network, secured from outside intruders).2010-08-21: To activate SSH, visit this page: _controlF.cgi (where is the IP of the unit). It takes a few seconds until it shows a switch button to select Turn On / Turn off SSH, and about 1 minute to activate. Some commands:# uname -r2.6.10-iop1-9# uname -marmv5tel# cat /proc/cpuinfoProcessor : XScale-IOP8032x Family rev 0 (v5l)BogoMIPS : 395.67cpu MHz : 395.673Features : swp half thumb fastmult edspCPU implementer : 0x69CPU architecture: 5TECPU variant : 0x0CPU part : 0x2e2CPU revision : 0Cache type : undefined 5Cache clean : undefined 5Cache lockdown : undefined 5Cache format : HarvardI size : 32768I assoc : 32I line length : 32I sets : 32D size : 32768D assoc : 32D line length : 32D sets : 32Hardware : Intel IQ31244Revision : 0000Serial : 0000000000000000# cat /proc/devicesCharacter devices:1 mem2 pty3 ttyp4 /dev/vc/04 tty4 ttyS5 /dev/tty5 /dev/console5 /dev/ptmx7 vcs10 misc13 input21 sg89 i2c90 mtd128 ptm136 pts180 usb211 gpiodrv212 eepromdrv252 kipstor253 bkscctl254 kfsnbaseBlock devices:1 ramdisk8 sd9 md31 mtdblock65 sd66 sd67 sd68 sd69 sd70 sd71 sd128 sd129 sd130 sd131 sd132 sd133 sd134 sd135 sd252 kvbdi253 kvbdi254 mdp# cat /proc/filesystemsnodev sysfsnodev rootfsnodev bdevnodev procnodev sockfsnodev pipefsnodev futexfsnodev tmpfsnodev eventpollfsnodev devptsext3ext2nodev ramfsnodev jffs2xfsnodev rpc_pipefsnodev nfsdnodev usbfsvfat# cat /proc/interruptsCPU00: 0 IOP321 DMA 0 EOT1: 0 IOP321 DMA 0 E0C2: 0 IOP321 DMA 1 EOT3: 0 IOP321 DMA 1 E0C9: 318860 IOP321 Timer Tick11: 6343 IOP3xx-I2C12: 1 IOP3xx-I2C20: 0 IOP321 DMA 0 ERR21: 0 IOP321 DMA 1 ERR27: 25610 eth0, ehci_hcd28: 30002 serial29: 248644 GD31244, ohci_hcd30: 1581 eth1, ohci_hcdErr: 0# cat /proc/meminfoMemTotal: 256916 kBMemFree: 151528 kBBuffers: 2920 kBCached: 20980 kBSwapCached: 0 kBActive: 27188 kBInactive: 9848 kBHighTotal: 0 kBHighFree: 0 kBLowTotal: 256916 kBLowFree: 151528 kBSwapTotal: 526144 kBSwapFree: 526144 kBDirty: 44 kBWriteback: 0 kBMapped: 21520 kBSlab: 9636 kBCommitLimit: 654600 kBCommitted_AS: 208228 kBPageTables: 764 kBVmallocTotal: 745472 kBVmallocUsed: 73856 kBVmallocChunk: 3907584 kB# cat /proc/pciPCI devices found:Bus 0, device 1, function 0:Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82541GI/PI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 5).IRQ 27.Master Capable. I have to take the power plug out when I feel the unit is stuck (it happened few times), which is not practical, if you ask me- whenever I do a forced shutdown as described above, the startup time tend to be much longer (20-30 min.); it looks like the unit is doing a check disk on some drives or all; I have no knowledge if or how I can check the disks when I want, not when it wants (at startup)- the machine only understands FAT-32, ext2, ext3 and xfs file systems (more on this)ReferenceI'm definitely trying to get all the info I can get about this unit, and make it work the way I want.
