The same reason that they are resorting to such practices. Hell if they are losing money then the people who are buying their games are going to get their money's worth and if they aren't then no-one is going to buy their games. So why not just put out a free version of the game then? No-one would ever know (unless they checked it out on a torrent site. Even if they did they wouldn't know if the crack was true to the game because they were downloading the crack. Hell there is a crack for one of my favourite games that is for the PS3. It is called the FreePlay option in the PlayStation 3.
Personally I think the fact that the studios are resorting to such tactics has more to do with the fact that they can no longer rely on being the only game in town. For example, at one point the publishers where the only people who could make decent games. Movies had to take a back seat because the movies were far more popular. Games took a back seat because they didn't have a lot of money invested in them. Now the studios can still make decent games (and they are) but they are having to spend even more money on marketing. And the more money they spend marketing the more they see that they are losing money in other areas of the game making. So they turn to making ridiculous DRM systems that no-one will use and force developers to use the system (forcing the developers to create coding within the system that would normally be done on their own). The system ends up rewarding the studios more money than they are losing in the long run. They may get more money from the end user but they lose more money from the developers who don't have the resources to make games for such systems.
It's like a business that's making money, but where the customers aren't paying - which is what would happen in the real world if the product is free - they have to be incentivized to buy. And in this case, that means DRM.
I am being honest here, I wouldn't be happy if I was the CEO of a company and people were downloading games for free. It would mean less money coming in for me. That is why I am fine with pirates and why I am fine with the legal way too. I am being fair here, I am not demanding that people do anything differently. All I am saying is that it shouldn't be illegal and if it isn't illegal then why shouldn't people be allowed to do what they want to do. People should be allowed to pirate things, people should be allowed to do what they want with it. They should be allowed to enjoy it. If people want to buy things then they should be allowed to buy them.
I think it is great that they are doing this. It is an indirect way to give people an incentive to buy the DVD, Games and other things they want to buy. If everyone went to the legal website, that would mean less money going to the anti-piracy site. That is the only reason I can think of why they are doing it. If it is a way to get more people to buy the DVDs, Games etc. then thats the way to do it. I just don't want to let people go to the illegal site or download the stuff they want and don't have the money for. Its just wrong. 827ec27edc
